October 2011
in October 2011 was diagnosed with t2 diabetes after going gto doctors with other issues.
I was put on ramipril or hhigh blood pressure straight away and told i needed blood test as i had some of symptoms of diabetes so I had the test and 2 days later was called in to see the nurse who said that as my count was over 10 i had T2 diabetesand proceeded to take some details. Said i was allowed to have the flu jab and stuck me with the needle thank god it doesnt bother me and said that i am now on a 3 month diet and exercise and to come back in January to have a blood test and see where we go. Was told to have things like porridge. pasta ansd rice should be wholemeal etc and that he had sent a referral for me to attend Desmonds.
when i left i thought should i have asked questions?? none had come to mind after all my dad had it and he kept it under control with diet and exercise so I should be able to.
November 2011
Well now began my diet and exercise, I was a member of gym so just had to get off me bum and actually go more and managed to cut out the choc biscuits etc but both my wife and I were stll a little nieve as far as carbs, so I continued with my pasta and potatoes as normal with rice now and again.
Although I joined here in October i was a little in denial so reused to think that these carbs were gonna ‘harm’ me and after all had cut out all the bicuits.
I made good headway with weight loss losing about 1 and half stone by the end of November, having tried a few alternatives to carbs like celeriac (horrible) and butternut squosh which i found to be quite nice.
December 2011
Christmas month what can I say a few meals out for work plus works night do i Put on about half a stone through this month
Roll on christmas day nice big meal but kept the potatoes low and lots of veg and was full so no pudding. I was drvng that day so was on diet coke. Was a good day and n afternoon had in laws round which was nice as get on well with both
9.20pm and things then decided to go really bad, i took my mother in law home as she was using a walker thing and so was easier to take her on own and as FIL was watching a film seemed a good idea. they only live 5 mins drive away but as I was nearly there she decided (as we all think) to have a heart attack and died.
rest of month was a blur reallly, we had the funeral and wake and spent rest of month in denial really .
